Mission Statement
Our mission is to achieve distinction as a chamber music duo with critically recognized international experience in performing, recording, teaching, publishing, and expanding the frontiers of cultural exchange/cultural diplomacy. In line with these goals, we seek to commission, arrange, and premier music by East Asian composers, and engage in discussion of the interaction between music and political life whether in the era of the Soviet Union or the present day.
Origins
The name Amitayus was decided on after playing a concert for ethnic Tibetans at Southwest Nationalities University outside of Chengdu, Sichuan province in 2010. Amitayus is a Buddha of long life, which symbolizes a kind of ecumenical spirit when it comes to our music touching all circles of society, and a hope for the longevity of our cooperation, which began in 2004 in Cincinnati.
